Heron Walk Studio is owned and operated by Gary Charpentier.
I studied Fine Arts at SMU (now UMASS Dartmouth) and Painting, Sculpture and Ceramics at Cleveland Institute of Art with later studies at Boston Architectural Center and RISD. Foregoing graduate school in the arts, I decided to pursue my interest in design, building and alternative energy by operating a Design/Build firm specializing in custom homes and additions emphasizing energy efficiency, first in Ohio, then in SE Mass, and finally settling in Rhode Island.
Always maintaining a studio space, I continued object making with painting, collage, sculpture, pottery and jewelry, at times showing and selling my work.
Exploring shape, line and color in the studio has provided a welcome play experience for me, counter balancing the stricter work requirements of the building industry. At Heron Walk Studio, any given morning may offer the surprise of a Great Blue or any number of egrets hunting in the pond across the way all curvy necks and angled legs and pointed beaks. This coupled with the colorful sunrises across the Palmer River beyond provides both energy and inspiration to my work.
Currently offering painted and patinaed copper jewelry and candlesticks, most of the objects are worked in a series though all are one-of-a kind and handmade by me. As I continue to express creatively through these objects and materials, they exist to their own end. That they may bring visual or functional pleasure or possibly meaning to those who use them is even better.
My work can currently be seen and purchased by appointment. Please contact me at 401-569-1896
